Tips for a Painless Wax
There is nothing quite like the feeling of soft, silky, smooth skin after a wax.
The benefits of waxing are endless, and more often than not, once you try waxing you’ll never want to go back shaving. So what’s the downside?
Well if not properly prepared for, it can be a bit of an uncomfortable experience.
So what can you do to make it the best possible experience, you may ask. Well we’re happy to share the pro tips of the trade that will give you the smooth clean wax you desire without paying the painful price.
1. Do Your Homework.
The first and absolute most important thing you can do to prepare for a painless wax is to do your research! Find a trusted wax studio and make an appointment with an experienced professional esthetician. As with anything, the more you do it the better you are and trust us, it is worth it to go to an experienced esthetician for your waxing needs.
2. Avoid ‘That Time of the Month’.
3-4 days after your cycle is when your pain tolerance threshold is at its highest, so this is the best time to book your appointment. Up to 5 days before and during your cycle is when you are most sensitive so try to avoid booking an appointment during this time.
3. Take an Anti-Inflammatory.
Taking ibuprofen 30 minutes before your appointment can help to lessen the pain during, as it will have had enough time to kick in by the time you’ve arrived. In addition to minimizing pain, it also has anti-inflammatory components that will reduce redness and swelling.
4. Skip the Latte.
Try skipping caffeine until after your appointment. Drinking caffeine tends to heighten your sensitivity, making you much more alert and consequently the wax feeling more painful.
5. Relax Your Body.
Now this may seem impossible to do but keeping the mind at ease and the body relaxed can really impact the way you feel during your wax. The more tense your body is, the more painful it can become. Most people tend to hold their breath and tense up but that’s actually the last thing you want to do. Remember, the more you breathe and the calmer you are, the easier and less painful it will be.
6. Keep It Up, Honey!
Lastly, if you’re consistent with your waxing appointments, the length of time between treatments will increase. The more you wax, the weaker the hair follicle becomes and the easier it is to remove the hair. Overtime your hair will eventually start to come in thinner and sparser, reducing the amount of hair needed to be waxed. Being consistent with waxing pays off!
